Swee L.

Instructor

How did you get into Pilates?
When I became a full-time barre instructor, I found my passion in learning about body anatomy and educating clients about good alignment and form, particularly due to my personal experience getting injured from exercising with bad form. That's also when I discovered Pilates, which allowed me to delve deeper understanding and application of human body movements. After my trial of 5 classes at Off Duty Pilates, I realised that I've gained more spinal mobility! Just within 5 classes! I was impressed and wanted to learn more than what I've been self-educating online and through experiences.

Why did you become an instructor?
A job that makes me feel fulfilled and makes an impact. It brings me joy and satisfaction when a client comes back and raves to me how they are now able to engage their core, or feel less discomfort in a body part when doing a move, or simply that they are moving again now.

I love to learn new skill sets, and being an instructor is a constant journey. As I learn more, I hope to impart my knowledge to others who are looking to improve their health and fitness amongst their busy lives.

What makes your class unique?
I believe in - 'Progress not perfection". Some clients come in for the first time and say "it's too intense" but they keep coming back because they feel good in their bodies and they see results. It's never about doing it perfectly the first time, it's how you work towards it. We'll have fun, we'll work hard, and we'll celebrate our progress together!

What do you want clients to leave your class feeling?
Accomplished. I want my clients to feel challenged, and leave the studio stronger, taller, light in their feet, and excited for the next!

Do you prefer fitness or technical classes?
I enjoy taking fitness classes, but I prefer to teach technical classes. When I workout, I want to shut off my mind and push my physical limits, but when I teach I want my clients to take home valuable information to help better their daily alignment and form.

Favourite workout other than Pilates?
Rockclimbing, barre and strength training - for the booty!
